For the Cilentan people the Gelbison is simply "the Sacred Mountain", that annually attracts thousand of believers that up there they meet for asking the graces to the Madonna.
On the top (1705 mt of altitude) is the tallest sanctuary in Italy, whose origins are ancient. The brown face of the statue of the Madonna, the eyes to the Greek fret, bring us to the Byzantine image and to the colonization "basiliana" of the italo-Greek monks.
From the square the sight embraces all the Cilento, with the Alburnus Mountains from a side and the blue sea of the Tyrrhenian from the other. More distant, toward south, the thick of the Pollino.
Over the profile of the Amalfi coast and the promontory of Palinuro the outlines of Ischia and Capri are perceived.
